Contramapas Gran Canaria

CONTRAMAPAS GRAN CANARIA

Contramapas Gran Canaria is a project created on the island of Gran Canaria. It consists of a month-long journey on foot, divided into 25 stages, from La Graciosa to El Hierro, following the GR131 trail, also known as the Travesía Islas Canarias. This project offers us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the rich ancestral culture of the Canary Islands in an organic way, following the imaginary line that connects Lanzarote with El Hierro. Those brave enough to undertake this journey will leave a memorable mark.

At the end of each stage, a community gathering is held, featuring workshops, concerts, and talks that include traditional music and dance from the Canary Islands. Imagine the energy and connection generated in more than 30 municipalities!

To ensure the rest of the six walkers who make up this year’s team, the journey is organized with two vans driven by two dedicated drivers. According to the walkers, the stage in Fuerteventura has been the most challenging due to the island’s aridity, as the journey was through its interior.

Contramapas Gran Canaria is part of Sinapsis, a program by the Government of the Canary Islands that promotes research, training, and the development of innovative cultural projects with social and environmental impact.

It is a fascinating project that combines adventure, culture, and community in a single journey!
