Caravanning Trends: Surge in Sales and Rental of Motorhomes and Vans in 2024
During January 2024, there was a notable increase in the sales of new motorhomes and campers, reaching a total of 460 units, representing a 39% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Similarly, caravan registrations experienced growth of 24.3%, rising from 74 to 92 units. This upturn is noted as the best performance since the beginning of the pandemic, although it still remains below the levels of 2019 and 2020.
The second-hand market also showed a 25% increase in the sale of used motorhomes and campers, while registrations of second-hand caravans slightly decreased by 1.4%. This increase in sales is primarily attributed to the rise in demand for urban campers, versatile vehicles with reduced dimensions, as well as the increase in registrations of new motorhomes and campers intended for rental.
Simultaneously, there has been a significant surge in van rental, reflecting a trend towards flexible mobility. This growth aligns with the preference for independent and personalized travel experiences. Van rental has become popular for both individuals and businesses, used for leisure trips, moving, and commercial transportation. Additionally, the rental of new vans has also increased due to the flexibility they offer and the convenience of avoiding the costs associated with owning and maintaining a personal vehicle.
In summary, the growth in motorhome and camper sales, along with the surge in van rental, reflect an evolution in mobility preferences, driven by the search for flexible solutions tailored to the individual and commercial needs of users. This phenomenon signals a shift towards more sustainable and efficient consumption models in the caravaning sector.
