Have you decided to travel to the Canary Islands? Then you’ve come to the perfect place.
In this post we present you five places you can visit in these beautiful islands, putting sustainable tourism into practice.
1.Risco Caído and Sacred Mountains
Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains are a group of caves and ceremonial spaces of pre-Hispanic origin located in Gran Canaria. This sacred site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 and has become a key tourist attraction for those interested in the history and culture of the islands.
Risco Caído is made up of a group of caves that are located 100 m above the bottom of the ravine on an overhang of the ravine. In addition, the cave known as C6 is supposed to have been a meeting place for the Fayanes (Canarian priests). The cave has a particularity of its vaulted structure and has an artificial orifice which, when it receives the light of dawn, produces a peculiar optical effect on the images printed on the cave wall. It is also believed that astronomy was also studied here.
The Sacred Mountains, meanwhile, are a series of sacred sites and shrines in different parts of the islands that the ancient inhabitants regarded as connecting points between heaven and earth.
2. Anaga Natural Park
This natural park stretches along a chain of mountains and valleys on the north coast of the island of Tenerife. This area is a refuge for a wide diversity of flora and fauna native to the island. Among the fauna, the rabiche pigeon and the giant Tenerife lizard are outstanding. You can also go hiking along the trails that run through the park and enjoy the contrasting landscape between the mountains and the sea.
